A company in Bangladesh established in 2007 seeking to contribute to boosting agricultural production through providing quality seeds to the farmers. A team of renowned agricultural scientists under the collective leadership of Dr Md. Matiar Rahman, Dr. Md. Ali Akbar, Dr. Abdul Hamid, and Dr. M.A. Khaleque Mian developed a proposal to form a seed company and approached another group of companies having vast experience in manufacturing, distributing and trading of bricks, reinforcement bar, textiles and garment commodities. With over 30 years of corporate experience, Northern Group has agreed to provide financial and administrative support to the team. The support of the Northern Group coupled with long experience and intellect of the team generated a new company called Northern Seed Ltd.

Specialized in breeding, production, and marketing of cereals and vegetable seeds, Northern Seed Ltd. seeks to be the leader in seed business in the country. Facilitated by strong and well-equipped R&D facilities, the focus of the company’s breeding program is the farmers’ need i.e., higher yields, greater uniformity, better quality, resistance against pests and diseases. The company is in the process of developing and acquiring capacities for molecular breeding of rice and vegetable crops.

In the Northern Seed Ltd. there are 150 staff members including 20 research positions many of whom are having PhDs. The overall operation of the company is performed by six Divisions- Seed Production & Procurement, Seed Processing, Quality Assurance, Research & Development, Administration and Finance, and Marketing.

In Northern Seed Ltd. we never compromise with quality and our endeavor is to gain excellence in customer relationship. Our breeder’s seeds are produced in the company’s research farms or in the experiment stations of the National Agricultural Research Systems under the strict supervision of highly qualified plant breeders. Certified or truthfully labeled seeds are either produced in the Company’s farms or in carefully selected farmers’ fields with close supervision of production agronomists and seed technologists. We have modern storage and processing facilities and stringent quality control measures are followed in order to ensure high quality seeds.
